Know Your Rights: The Persons with Disabilities Act, 2013

Bangladesh passed the Rights and Protection of Persons with Disabilities Act in 2013. The law recognises that persons with disabilities have the same rights as everyone else, and sets out the responsibilities of the government and society to protect those rights.

What the law covers

The Act recognises a range of disabilities, including physical, visual, hearing, speech, intellectual and psychosocial disabilities, autism, cerebral palsy and others. It promotes equal access to education, health care, employment, public places, transport and information.

Where to start

Support such as disability identification, the disability allowance and education stipends is managed through the Department of Social Services. Your Upazila Social Services Office can explain the process and the documents you need.
